For teachers

One QR Code on the Board. The Whole Class Joins.

Eleven free tools a teacher can run from the classroom PC. Six are live: students scan once, type a nickname, and take part from whatever they have. Five run on your own screen with nothing to join. No student accounts, no app, nothing kept after the lesson.

The tools

Eleven jobs. One habit.

Once the class knows how to scan and join, every live tool takes the same thirty seconds to start. The on-screen tools need nothing at all: open the page and go.

Live: students join by QR

Up to 200 devices, nicknames only, the room erases itself within 24 hours.

01 · Brainstorm

Classroom board

Pin a question at the top. Every student's idea floats onto the board as a bubble in their own color, so the quiet ones get heard without raising a hand. Board mode fills the smartboard and grows the QR so the back row can scan it. Freeze the board when it is time to talk, then copy the whole thing into your lesson notes.

In class

  • "What do you already know about…" before you teach it
  • "One thing you learned today" in the last five minutes
  • Anonymous questions about the tricky bit
  • Rapid-fire quiz: post while frozen, unfreeze for answers

How it works

  • Open a classroom, type your prompt, Send & pin
  • Tap Board, students scan the QR from their desks
  • Freeze, discuss, Copy all
02 · Groups

Random group generator

No class list to type and no "can I be with my friend". Students scan and add their own names, you choose how many groups, and one tap deals everyone out fairly. Each phone lights up with its own group, so nobody has to squint at the board. Reshuffle for the next task in one tap, add an absent student by hand, and copy the groups as text for your records.

Project groupsLab partnersDebate sidesUp to 20 groups

In class

  • Five groups for a project, re-mixed next week
  • Pairs for peer marking, chosen by the server not by friendship
  • Two sides for a debate, fair by construction

How it works

  • Start a team room, students scan and type a name
  • Set the number of groups, press Shuffle
  • Team sizes differ by at most one
03 · Name picker

Spin the wheel

A wheel of names where nobody types the names. Students join by QR and each becomes a slice; you press Spin and the wheel turns on the projector and on every phone, landing on the same name everywhere. Remove the chosen student from the pool so everyone gets a turn, or reset for the next round. Add a name by hand for anyone without a phone.

In class

  • Cold-calling that is visibly random, so it never feels personal
  • Who presents first, second, third, with winners removed
  • The end-of-term raffle, drawn in front of everyone

How it works

  • Start a draw, put the QR on the board
  • Students join, press Spin
  • Tick "remove winner" and spin again
04 · Vote

Live poll

A concept check with two to six answers. Votes are anonymous and limited to one per student, and only you see the count while the poll is open, so nobody copies the first hand up. Close it and the result posts to every screen as a bar chart. A feed underneath takes follow-up questions. Run as many polls in a lesson as you like.

In class

  • "Which of these is a prime number?" before moving on
  • Honest confidence check: "How sure are you about today's topic?"
  • Pick the revision topic the class actually wants

How it works

  • Create a poll room, write the question and answers
  • It pops up on every phone that joined
  • Watch the count, close it, the result goes to everyone
05 · Class card

About your friend

A live celebration wall for one person. Set the name, students scan and each writes something kind about them. Every message floats onto the board with balloons and confetti, and you can hide them until the moment and reveal them one at a time while the browser reads them aloud. Download the whole wall as a keepsake PDF and hand it over. Anonymous posting is an option for shy writers.

In class

  • A farewell card for a colleague or a student assistant, signed by the whole class
  • A birthday or "well done" wall, read aloud at the end of the day
  • A kindness exercise: one nice thing about a classmate, revealed one by one

How it works

  • Start a wall, type the person's name
  • Students scan and post; tick "hide until I reveal" for a surprise
  • Reveal, read aloud, Download PDF
06 · Tasks

Shared checklist

Write the list once, share the QR, and the class ticks from their own phones. Every tick shows who did it and when, on every screen, so you can see who has finished the lab steps or packed for the trip without walking the room. Edit the list mid-way without losing the ticks, reset it for the next class, and copy the finished list as text.

Shareable checklist

In class

  • Practical steps that every group must tick before the next stage
  • A field-trip checklist the whole group ticks on the coach
  • Project milestones ticked by each team, visible to all

How it works

  • New checklist: title and items, one per line
  • Share the link or QR
  • Ticks sync live with a name on each

Open the page on the classroom PC. The counter, QR maker and comparer never send your text anywhere.

07 · Timer

Classroom timer

A big, clear countdown for the smartboard: presets from one to sixty minutes or any time you type, a draining ring, a chime and flash at zero, and red overtime counting up so "two more minutes" is honest. Type an agenda and it runs itself, item by item. Works offline once loaded, so a dropped Wi-Fi connection does not stop the clock.

In class

  • Ten minutes on the board for a task everyone can see
  • Three minutes per presentation, with overtime in red
  • An agenda for a whole lesson: starter, task, plenary

How it works

  • Pick a preset or type a time
  • Tap Fullscreen on the projector
  • Chime at zero, Esc to leave
08 · Hand-out

Share once

Put a link, a Wi-Fi password, a reading list or tonight's homework on the board as a QR code. Students scan and see it in big type with a Copy button next to every line, no name asked. The room is read-only by default so nothing gets buried under replies, and it erases itself within 24 hours, so a shared password does not live on. Edit the text live and every phone updates.

In class

  • The link to a document or video, scanned instead of typed
  • A worksheet's key vocabulary, copied into students' notes
  • Wi-Fi for a visiting speaker, gone by tomorrow

How it works

  • Share once, paste the text, Send
  • Put the QR on the board
  • Students scan and tap Copy
09 · QR maker

QR code generator

A permanent QR code for anything with a link: a Google Form, a worksheet, a class website, a video, a Wi-Fi network. Choose colours and size, download as PNG for a slide or SVG for a printed poster. Made on your device, no watermark, never expires, so the code on the classroom wall still works next year.

In class

  • A QR for the homework form on the last slide of every lesson
  • Printed codes on the wall linking to revision videos
  • A sign-in form at the door of a parents' evening

How it works

10 · Writing

Word counter

Words, characters, sentences and paragraphs as you type, with reading and speaking time, so a student can check a 500-word essay or a two-minute speech before handing it in. The keyword table and word cloud show which words a piece leans on, which is a quick way to spot repetition. Runs in the browser, nothing uploaded.

In class

  • "Is my essay under 800 words?" answered in seconds
  • How long a presentation script takes to say aloud
  • A word cloud of a poem to start a discussion on its vocabulary

How it works

11 · Drafts

Text compare

Paste a first draft and a redraft and see every addition in green and every deletion in red, by word or by line, inline or side by side. Put it on the projector to show what good editing looks like, or let students check that their second draft actually changed what the feedback asked for. Nothing leaves the browser.

  • Students compare their own two drafts after feedback
  • Spot the differences between two translations of the same passage

How it works

A lesson that uses the set

Starter, groups, check, exit ticket.

One worked example. Swap the topic for yours; the shape fits most fifty-minute lessons.

  1. 01

Starter: what do you already know?

Open a classroom, pin the topic, switch to board mode. The class fills the board in two minutes and you see the misconceptions before you teach. Put the timer on for the two minutes.

  2. 02

    Groups in one tap

Start a team room, students scan, you choose five groups, press Shuffle. Each phone lights up with its group. Share the task sheet as a QR note so nobody types a link.

  3. 03

    Check and exit ticket

Spin the wheel to pick who presents. Then a one-question poll on the key idea, and "one thing you learned today" back on the classroom board. Copy the board into your planner before you leave.

In the room or remote

QR for the room, a link for Google Classroom.

In the classroom

  • Tap Board mode. The QR grows so the back row can scan it with a phone camera.
  • Students pick a nickname and are in. No codes to read out.
  • One device per table also works for group work.

Remote or hybrid

  • Tap Copy link next to the QR and paste it into the Google Classroom stream or a Teams channel.
  • Students tap the link and join the same room from home.
  • The link dies with the room, so nothing stays live after the lesson.
Safeguarding

Designed around the things teachers worry about.

01

No student data

Nicknames only. No emails, no accounts, no sign-ups. Nothing to register with the school and nothing to delete later.

02

Links stay hidden

A pasted link shows up blurred and only opens after a caution card. Names, poll questions and answers cannot contain links at all. You can remove any message with one tap.

03

A brake on the flood

Posting is rate-limited so nobody can machine-gun the board, and freezing it gives you the floor instantly.

04

You hold the room

Only you can pin, remove, freeze, add a password or close the room. Students never see each other’s devices or anything beyond the nickname they chose.

05

Works on whatever they have

Phones, tablets, school laptops. Any browser. Up to 200 devices in one room.

06

Cleans up after itself

Tap Copy all for your notes. The room erases itself after 6 quiet hours, 24 at most, so there’s no forgotten class chat living on.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

Do students need an account, an app or an email address?

No. Students point their phone camera at the QR code on the projector, or tap a link you post, and the room opens in their browser. They type a nickname and take part. Any phone, tablet or school laptop.

What student data does Quick Note Share keep?

Only the nickname a student types, and only while the room exists. Rooms erase themselves after 6 hours of inactivity, 24 hours at the latest. Nothing to register with the school and nothing to delete afterwards.

Can I post the room link in Google Classroom instead of using the QR code?

Yes. Every room has a short link next to its QR code. Tap Copy link and paste it into the Classroom stream or a Teams channel. Students tap it and join the same room.

How do I stop students posting links or flooding the board?

Pasted links show up blurred and only open after a caution card. Posting is rate-limited, you can remove any message with one tap, and freezing the board stops everyone except you from posting.

How many students can join?

Up to 200 devices in a classroom room, a poll, a group generator, a name wheel or a class card, so a full lecture theatre fits.

Can I keep what the class wrote?

Yes. Every room has a Copy all or Copy as text button, and the class card downloads as a PDF. Copy before you leave: the room erases itself afterwards.

Is it really free?

Yes. No account, no plan and no device limit to upgrade past. Quick Note Share is an independent project with no ads.

Try it next lesson.
