- Paste your text, or type straight into the box. Every count updates on each keystroke.

- Scroll to the cloud. Each colour is a word family. Download it as a PNG for a slide or a report.
What gets counted
- Words. Runs of letters, digits or apostrophes. Hyphenated words count once. Numbers count as words.
- Characters. Everything you typed, shown with and without spaces. Emoji count as the characters they’re made of, which matches how most platforms count.
- Sentences. Split on full stops, question marks and exclamation marks followed by a space or a line break.
- Paragraphs. Blocks of text separated by a blank line.
- Reading time at 238 words a minute; speaking time at 150.
About the clustered word cloud
Most word clouds treat “plan”, “plans” and “planning” as three unrelated words. This one strips common endings to find the family, sizes each family by its total, gives it one colour and places its members next to each other. The legend lists the biggest families with every form found. Turn clustering off to see each spelling on its own.
